Venice

Montanari has lived the liquid luster of Venice, which has translated into many paintings. His is a journey in the depths of things. The hidden city is what he prefers, or corners that could take him far from a popular landscape painting of postcard style. He manages to evade the obvious with the immediacy, getting with a few strokes what excites him.

"If Montanari paints the Venetian lagoon, Chioggia, Comacchio, the atmosphere becomes transparents and light, you can almost smell the sea; everything becomes either blue or purple"

Irnerio Patrizi, 1976
